Hi friends and family....miss u guys!!!!
Just making boatloads of art in preparation for Redding fire Festival where I'll be performing and running a free painting workshop. Then this art show is coming up so I'm working my butt off making sculptures and paintings all week. Feels like im in school again juggling deadlines. being productive though and networking like crazy. :) missing home though!!
My interest in encaustics sparked back in October when I saw one in a gallery while in Aspen. The next few months I researched the materials, which are expensive and synthetic when you buy encaustic medium from an art store.
I decided to make some of my own. a few months later I was cooking up wax based natural paint. Now, I have a recipe of my own which has been altered through trial and error.
I've started making it in bulk and coloring it in smaller batches, creating these round encaustic medium chuncks of my own (my DIY version=using throw away cupcake tins for my molds.)
a solo exhibition of works by Jessica Willis

Please join us for an Artist’s Reception Saturday, June 5th, Time: TBA (later in the day)
Jessica Willis, a visiting artist from Ohio, has been captivated by the landscape of Northern California. She has been moving towards a holistic art practice as she explores organic materials and incorporates them into her two and three-dimensional work. She collects these materials in an ecologically-conscious hunter-gatherer fashion and is beginning to make her own paints using natural pigments. Collaborating with nature, she finds forms and allows them to grow organically as process takes over: bending, weaving, rearranging, constructing and deconstructing. Spontaneity and change are embraced as the artwork forms through growth and decay, capturing the cyclical essence of nature.
Jessica graduated from the Ohio State University with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2013 and has won multiple awards for her dynamic and engaging work. “Rhythm” will be a celebration of nature at Shasta County Arts Council and will run through the month of June.

Painting on top is this week's, painting below is last week's. Fun to see the progression.
It's official...I'm going to plein air paint forever and ever. Nothing like being outdoors all day and translating the landscape into paint. I'm obsessed.
